In the year 1926, Saroj-Nalini (in Bengali) got published, which bears the testimony to the life of the wife of eminent ICS GurusadayDutta. The book was an accomplished piece of work, written in Gurusaday’s lucid language and fortified by a foreword by Rabindranath Tagore to this biography. More importantly it is a kind of its own, where an accomplished personality writes the biography of his beloved wife. The book portrays the early efforts of Sarojnalini, wife of Gurusaday and other accomplished women of that time, to establish a woman’s organizations (MahilaSamiti) across different parts of undivided Bengal, a definitive effort for the nascent form of women empowerment. With many valuable photographs, this book sees the light of the day again, after it had been long forgotten, as an important document of Indian renaissance. The actual print of the book has been kept intact (with original footnotes), and the present new cited edition has something more to offer, such as – some works of Sarjnalini, in form of letters, and articles, reports printed in contemporary Periodicals and Newspapers, which will definitely throw some light on the condition of the society and that of women in India, and particularly in Bengal during the early part of the twentieth century.
