Prakash Chandra Maity obtained his M.A. (1990) and B.Ed. from Calcutta University and a P.G. Diploma in Archaeology (2004) from the Institute of Archaeology, ASI, New Delhi. He served as a guest faculty for two sessions in the Anthropology Department of Calcutta University. Starting his career as an Exploration Assis-tant in the Directorate of Archaeology & Museums in 1996, he has retired from his service in November 2024. His areas of specializa-tion include Prehistory, Field Archaeology, Epigraphy, Art, Archi-tecture, Antiquarian Law, and Conservation. With over a dozen major archaeological excavations under his belt, including Harap-pan sites like Dholavira and Hatab, he has also worked on sites like Lalitgiri, Tilpi, and Moghalmari. As Director of Excavation, he oversaw the excavation of Moghalmari from 2014-2016 and Deul-pota's early historic site. Additionally, he excavated Garh Manda-ran and Moghalmari as Co-Director and participated in Jagjiban-pur's excavation from 1996-2006. Maity has reported over 100 ar-chaeological sites in West Bengal's river valleys and conserved Buddhist sites and temples in various districts. He has authored numerous research papers and co-authored "Prehistory of Susunia and Suvarnarekha Valley" along with over 25 articles in national and international journals.
