This special volume of essays put together by Jadavpur University's Comparative Literature Department explores a range of arguments contesting the ideological and artificial boundaries of literature and its interrelationships with the wider context of the arts. The essays engage with diverse subjects—Roman Jacobson to the Rāmāyaṇa, Munshi Premchand to Mainadal kirtan, Gond art to Gauriya Nritya, and more. Traversing carefully between affinities and disjunctures, scholars like Pinaki De, Chris Dorsett, Sagar Taranga and Trina Nileena Banerjee push towards borderlands and frontiers the paradigms of our existing disciplinary separatisms and syncretisms. The editors, Debasree Dattaray, Epsita Halder and Samantak Das, have collated and curated a volume that is underpinned by the essential interdisciplinarity of the multimodal explorations within (and without) the framework of comparative literary studies.
